Do you ever go thirsty? Does it take you hours each day to walk to get clean water? Do you ever think to yourself, ‘Am I going to get sick from drinking this water?’.

We are very lucky in Australia to have easy access to clean drinking water. Many countries in the world do not have this luxury. 4V have come together to make people at SMOT aware of how precious water is to everyone in this world. We are taking the TWO WEEK WATER CHALLENGE and invite you to join us.

For two weeks we will be replacing all bottled drinks with tap water to raise money to build wells in a developing country. Each drink we replaced we will collect money in a jar. We are asking the whole school to join us in this challenge. We will be giving house points for each drink other students in the school replace.

Water at SMOT

WATER, WATER, WATER!

This week during inquiry time we have been looking at how we collect, use and store water around the school. We found out that our school has two rain water tanks that we use to water the gardens. We also found out that bottom yard has less storm water drains than top yard, even though bottom yard is a lot bigger. This means that when it rains all the water is being soaked into the concrete rather than going down the drains into our rivers and creeks.

We took a photo of two water meters in the school and we are going to track how much water is used each week.
